On September 18, the party for all overseas Chinese in Britain marking the 63th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China was held at the Millennium Hotel London. Over 350 representatives from the Chinese community throughout Britain gathered at the party to celebrate the birthday of the motherland. Chargé d’Affaires Cong Peiwu attended and addressed the party.

The Chargé d’Affaires first extended the festival greetings and best wishes to the Chinese compatriots in Britain on behalf of Ambassador Liu Xiaoming and the Chinese Embassy. Mr. Cong said that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China over the past 63 years, China has successfully opened up a development path suitable for China’s own situations and created a socialist cause with Chinese characteristics. The country’s great achievements have attracted world attention and have become a pride for all the Chinese people. He also highlighted China’s major achievements this year in developing economy, improving people’s livelihood, innovating technology and other aspects, and recalled the splendid success of the Chinese athletes at London Olympic and Paralympic Games. Mr. Cong commended the Chinese compatriots in Britain for their long-standing patriotism and national spirit of hard work, and recognized their contributions to promoting the development of various undertakings in China, the reunification of the motherland, the Chinese culture and the China-UK friendship. He hoped that they would continue their support to China’s development and progress and make unremitting efforts for the rejuvenation of China. Mr. Cong said that the Chinese Embassy would continue to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the compatriots, provide sound services and facilitate the contacts between the compatriots and the motherland.

Deng Guifang, Chair of the Preparatory Committee for the National Day Celebration of All Overseas Chinese in Britain, delivered a speech on behalf of the Chinese community in Britain. She said that the compatriots in the UK would continue their firm support to China’s development and progress and their efforts in promoting the national reunification, the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the China-UK non - governmental friendly exchanges. She wished the motherland a better future.

The auspicious lion and kylin dances and the birthday cake expressed the good wishes of the compatriots in Britain to the motherland. The dances, Wushu and instrumental music performance with a strong Chinese style added joyous festive atmosphere to the event. Finally the party ended with the song “Ode to the Motherland” sang together by all the participants.
