2012-07-28 15:59

On July 27, 2012, Representative of the Chinese Government and State Councilor Dai Bingguo met with British Foreign Secretary William Hague.

Mr. Dai said, “On behalf of the Chinese government, I attended the opening ceremony of the London Olympics and visited the Chinese athletes to express the support for the Olympic cause. I believe that the London Olympic Games will become a unique and exciting Olympics and I wish the London Olympic Games a success.”

Mr. Dai pointed out that the China-UK relations are very important and the two countries have great potential in the development of their relations and cooperation. The two countries should overcome the difficulties in their bilateral relations, create a better atmosphere and conditions and give full play to the potential in their relations to the benefit of both peoples.

Mr. Hague welcomed Dai Bingguo’s attendance at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics as the representative of the Chinese Government and thanked China for its support for the London Olympics. He said that the UK takes a positive view of China’s development and attaches great importance to relations with China. The UK is willing to uphold larger interests, enhance the dialogue and communications with China, deepen mutual understanding, expand cooperation and promote positive development of China-UK relations.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.

Mr. Dai Bingguo also met with Mr. Jeremy Hunt, British Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport, in the evening of July 26.
