In the evening of 28 September, Premier Wen Jiao Bao of the State Council had a phone conversation with Prime Minister Brown by appointment.
Prime Minister Brown express the concern of the international community over the current situation in Myanmar and hoped to see stabilization of the situation as soon as possible and reconciliation leading to the beginning of political process. The British side hoped that the Chinese side would continue to exert a positive influence to facilitate proper solution to the Question of Myanmar and was ready to strengthen contact with the Chinese side.
Premier Wen said that China followed closely the situation in Myanmar. We hoped that relevant parties in the country would exercise restraint and adopt peaceful means in order to stabilize the situation, seek internal reconciliation and achieve democracy and development at an early date. We believed that it was necessary for the international community to provide constructive help to the final solution to the Question of Myanmar. The Chinese Government would continue to work with the international community in order to actively promote the proper solution to the Question.
