Ambassador Zheng Zeguang attends and addresses the China (Nanjing)-UK (London) Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference

On 15 April 15 2024, H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang attended the China (Nanjing)-UK (London) Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference and delivered remarks at invitation.

Ambassador Zheng introduced the economic development of Nanjing and its advantages in investment environment. He said that Nanjing, as one of the four ancient capitals of China, boasts a rich and profound history and culture, robust economy and abundant talent, offering favorable conditions for foreign investment. In recent years, Nanjing’s investment environment has further improved, making the city a popular destination for global investment and cooperation.

Ambassador Zheng pointed out that China is firmly committed to pursuing modernisation with Chinese characteristics and high-quality development. The country is accelerating the development of new quality productive forces and focused on expanding domestic demand and high-standard opening up. Since the beginning of this year, the Chinese economy has continued to improve, with positive growth in industrial production, consumption, investment, and import and export of goods. China is continuously fostering a market-oriented, law-based and internationalised business environment, and expanding market access. It is upgrading traditional industries and making them smarter and greener through sci-tech innovation, and cultivating emerging and future-oriented industries to boost high-quality development.

Ambassador Zheng emphasised that the facts will continue to prove that the pessimistic talk about China’s economy in the West media is groundless. The long-term trajectory of China's economy remains positive. There is huge potential for cooperation between China and the UK await to be tapped, especially in financial service, biomedicine, creative industry, high-end manufacturing and new energy. Many European countries are actively enhancing cooperation with China, and the British businesses are welcome to expand investment in the country. The Chinese Embassy in the UK stands ready to provide assistance and facilitation for the British business community to carry out exchanges and broaden mutually beneficial cooperation with China.

At the conference, Han Liming, Party Secretary of CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee, introduced Nanjing's industrial development advantages and investment policies. She said that Nanjing, as a hub of innovation, a city with strong industries, and a frontier of openness, is willing to cooperate with British enterprises and share its strengths in industrial system, talent reserve, openness, and green and low-carbon development, and invited British businesses to invest and develop in Nanjing.

Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles, Chair of the China-Britain Business Council, John Mclean, Chair of the China UK Business Development Centre, and Fang Wenjian, Chairman of China Chamber of Commerce in the UK, and more than 100 Chinese and British guests from political, business and academic sectors attended the event. Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles and Mr McLean welcomed the Nanjing delegation to the UK in their remarks and encouraged British and Chinese business communities to carry out more active collaboration. Several Chinese and British entrepreneurs shared their experiences in investment and cooperation in Nanjing and the UK. A signing ceremony was held for projects in a wide range of fields such as biomedicine, intelligent logistics, and chemical industries.
