Li Keqiang Meets with Special Envoy of British Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond
2019/04/27

On April 26, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met with Special Envoy of Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond of the United Kingdom (UK) at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Li Keqiang said that both China and the UK are permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and important partners of cooperation to each other. It is hoped that the two sides, on the basis of mutual respect and equal treatment, could respect each other's core interests and major concerns and promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations. Both sides have reached consensus on the resumption of China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue. The Chinese side is ready to work with the UK side to meet each other halfway, and constantly accumulate positive factors for the smooth development of important bilateral exchanges in the next stage. Under the current international situation, to jointly safeguard the rules-based multilateral trading system is conducive to promoting world peace, development and prosperity.

Philip Hammond forwarded UK Prime Minister Theresa May's signed letter to Premier Li Keqiang and said that the UK side highly praises China's further opening up and its efforts to safeguard multilateralism and free trade. The practical cooperation between the UK and China has brought tangible benefits to each other. The UK side is ready to strengthen dialogue and communication, expand cooperation in finance, trade services and other areas with the Chinese side to push for new development of bilateral relations.
