Li Keqiang Meets with President Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez of El Salvador
2019/12/03

On the afternoon of December 3, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met with President Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez of El Salvador at the Great Hall of the People, who was in China for a state visit.

Li Keqiang expressed, since China and El Salvador established diplomatic relations last year, bilateral relations have kept progressing, which serves the common interests of both peoples and helps achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. President Xi Jinping will hold talks with Mr. President to chart the course for the future development of bilateral relations. The Chinese side always upholds the equality between all countries regardless of the size, mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, equal treatment and non-interference in internal affairs. We support the El Salvadoran side's efforts in maintaining security and stability and improving people's livelihood, and are willing to work with the El Salvadoran side to maintain the political foundation of bilateral relations, consolidate political mutual trust and expand practical cooperation, so as to create more beautiful prospects for bilateral relations.

Li Keqiang noted, China and El Salvador are both developing countries and enjoy great potential for cooperation. The Chinese side is willing to enhance synergy of development strategies with the El Salvadoran side, make overall plan for cooperation in key areas for the next stage and foster new highlights of cooperation in such areas as trade, investment, infrastructure construction, agriculture, forestry and fisheries. It is hoped that the El Salvadoran side will provide support and convenience for Chinese enterprises to invest in El Salvador. We also need to facilitate bilateral personnel exchanges, expand exchanges and cooperation in areas including education, tourism and culture, so as to reinforce the non-governmental foundation for the long-term development of bilateral relations.

Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez said, El Salvador and China are neighbors bordering the Pacific Ocean, and our two peoples have a profound friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, El Salvador and China have witnessed rapid development of bilateral relations and fruitful cooperation outcomes in various fields. Advancing cooperation with China will bring more opportunities for the El Salvadoran side. The El Salvadoran side firmly supports the One China policy, and is willing to strengthen dialogue and communication with the Chinese side, step up cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture and people-to-people exchanges and become the gateway for Chinese enterprises to enter America. The El Salvadoran side will provide convenience and legal guarantee for Chinese investments.
