Yang Jiechi and Patrushev Co-chairs the 15th Round of Strategic Security Consultation Between China and Russia

On December 4, Yang Jiechi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee co-chaired the 15th round of strategic security consultation between China and Russia with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev. The two sides had in-depth communication and reached broad consensus on China-Russia relations, international affairs and multilateral cooperation, strategic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, and military security cooperation in the new era.

The two sides agreed to give full play to the role of the strategic security consultation mechanism, implement the consensus of the two heads of state, further deepen political mutual trust and strategic cooperation, resolutely oppose external interference, firmly support each other's core interests, safeguard the political and institutional security of the two countries, and create a more secure and stable external environment for their respective development and revitalization.

China expressed its full support for Russia as it will assume rotating presidency of Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS Summits next year. The two sides agreed to maintain and practice multilateralism, and take it as the key direction of international cooperation. They will continue to take a clear-cut stand against unilateralism and bullying, and jointly promote international and regional peace, stability, and prosperity. The two sides will work together to maintain global strategic stability, oppose the development of the global anti-missile system by the United States and its withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. The two sides will continue to promote the political settlement of hotspot issues such as Korean peninsula nuclear issue, Iranian nuclear issue, Afghanistan, Venezuela, etc.
