Xi Jinping Meets with President Halimah Yacob of Singapore
2019/05/14

On May 14, 2019, President Xi Jinping met with President Halimah Yacob of Singapore at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had just attended opening ceremonies of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and the Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition in China last month, and Ms. President is in China for the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations (CDAC) this month, which fully shows the close relationship between China and Singapore. As each other's development opportunity, China and Singapore have marched forward hand in hand for a long time, and enjoyed extensive converging interests. The two countries should maintain the tradition of high-level exchanges, and provide strategic guidance for the development of China-Singapore relations. The Chinese nation has the tradition of inheritance and innovation. The joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative is a process of inclusiveness and friendship, as well as the biggest development opportunity for China-Singapore relations at present. Both sides should forge the high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative into a new business card for China-Singapore cooperation, and make good and full use of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the third-party market cooperation to yield results at an early date. Both sides should firmly support economic globalization and multilateralism, promote Asian countries to unite as one, focus on cooperation, and take the CDAC as an opportunity to jointly build the beautiful home of Asia. Our circle of friends will be bigger and bigger in the process of building a multi-polar world.

Halimah Yacob congratulated on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and expressed that it is the right time for the Chinese side to hold the CDAC, which will be conducive to exploring better ways to benefit people of the world. Singapore-China relations are enjoying positive development, and bilateral major cooperation projects have become models for mutually beneficial cooperation between countries. The Singaporean side has firmly supported the Belt and Road Initiative from the very beginning, and stands ready to, together with the Chinese side, deepen exchanges and cooperation in economy, trade, and people-to-people and cultural engagement to benefit the two peoples, and jointly uphold the rules-based multilateral trading system, which is of vital importance to various countries, especially to small and medium-sized countries.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Huang Kunming, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and others were present.
