Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Special Envoy of the ROK President and National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong
2018/03/12

On March 12, 2018, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and State Councilor Yang Jiechi held talks in Beijing with Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong.

Briefing Yang Jiechi on relevant situation of his visits to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States, Chung Eui-yong expressed that the ROK attaches great importance to the ROK-China relations and bilateral cooperation and spoke positively of the important role China has been playing in pushing for the process of political settlement of the Peninsula issue. The ROK stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China to make joint efforts in promoting the denuclearization of the Peninsula and the process of dialogue and consultation.

Yang Jiechi noted that China is willing to work with the ROK to further well implement the consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Moon Jae-in to promote the continuous improvement and development of the China-ROK relations. China appreciates the ROK’s efforts in promoting the easing of the situation on the Peninsula. The current positive changes in the situation of the Peninsula are conducive to bringing the denuclearization process of the Peninsula back to the right track of settlement through dialogue, and also conform to the direction set by the United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning the DPRK. It is hoped that all parties will remain committed to political and diplomatic settlement, so as to push for constant progress of the Peninsula issue in a direction that is in line with the common expectation of the international community. China is willing to continuously play a positive and constructive role to this end.
