President Donald Trump of the US Meets with Yang Jiechi
2018/02/10

On February 9, 2018 local time, President Donald Trump of the United States (US) met at the Oval Office of White House with Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of Communist Party of China and State Councilor Yang Jiechi, who was visiting the US.

Yang Jiechi conveyed the sincere greetings of President Xi Jinping to Donald Trump.

Yang Jiechi expressed that during Mr. President's visit to China last November, President Xi Jinping and Mr. President reached important consensus and addressed that China and the US share extensive common interests and significant responsibilities in safeguarding world peace, stability and prosperity. The direction of China-US relations has important global influence. The constant development of China-US relations not only conforms to the fundamental interests of the two peoples, but also is the common expectation of the international community. Since this year, the two heads of state have maintained close contact through telephone talks and telegram and required teams of the two countries to promote cooperation in a wide range of areas with the spirit of seizing every minute, which charted the course toward which both teams should make efforts. It is hoped that both sides will make joint efforts, take the implementation of the consensus and results of the meeting between the two heads of state in Beijing as the guideline, maintain close exchanges at high level and across all levels, well host the second round of four China-US high-level dialogue mechanisms, expand cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, two militaries, law enforcement, drug control, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and at local levels, enhance coordination on international and regional issues including the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and properly handle differences and sensitive issues, in a bid to push forward China-US relations for greater development in the new year.

Donald Trump asked Yang Jiechi to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping. Donald Trump expressed that he paid a very successful state visit to China last November. The US-China relations are of great significance. He agreed that both sides should well implement the consensus and results of the meeting between President Xi Jinping and him in Beijing. The US stands ready to strengthen cooperation with China to promote bilateral relations for more positive progress.

On the same day, Yang Jiechi met at White House with Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Herbert Raymond McMaster and Senior Advisor to the President Jared Kushner of the US. The two sides exchanged views on enhancing cooperation between China and the US in important bilateral fields and on international and regional issues.
