Wang Yi Meets with Co-Chairs of the Intergovernmental Negotiations on the UN Security Council Reform
2018/01/18

On January 18, 2018, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with visiting Co-Chairs of the Intergovernmental Negotiations on the United Nations (UN) Security Council Reform, including Permanent Representative of Georgia to the UN Kaha Imnadze and Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the UN Lana Zaki Nusseibeh. Wang Yi expressed that China supports the reform of the UN Security Council. The only correct direction of the reform is increasing the representativeness and voice of developing countries and giving more small and medium-sized countries more opportunities to participate in the decision-making process of the UN Security Council. The reform must conform to the principle that it should be led by member states of the UN. Extensive consensus should be reached and a package solution should be adopted through sufficient consultation.
