DIS-ORIENTATIONS at Riverside Studios
presented by Shanghai Yue Opera Company and Border Crossings
2006/09/14

BORDER CROSSINGS in association with RIVERSIDE STUDIOS, SHANGHAI YUE OPERA COMPANY present
Dis-Orientations
Dis-Orientations tells the story of talent scout Julian Lucas (Tony Guilfoyle - The Dragons' Trilogy, Shopping and Fucking); whose journey to China in search of his missing daughter throws open a window on the extremities of modern-day Shanghai. As he is led into a world of underground clubs, hidden histories and cross-dressed performers, the line between performance and reality becomes ever more blurred.

Two years in the making, Dis-Orientations is the result of a groundbreaking collaboration with the all-female Yue Opera of Shanghai and, for the first time in the UK, features Yue opera star Zhang Ruihong. This cross-cultural dialogue is reflected in the production's unique blend of styles, bringing together western naturalism, video and film with the musicality and spectacle of the traditional Chinese stage.
