Ambassador Liu Xiaoming Meets with Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labor Party

On February 26, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming met with Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labor Party at the British Parliament and exchanged views on China-UK relations and party-to-party exchanges. Emily Thornberry, Labour's Shadow First Secretary of State and Foreign Secretary, and Shadow Foreign Minister Helen Goodman were present.

Mr Corbyn said that the Labor Party attaches great importance to developing relations with China. In 1950, with the Labor Party in government, Britain became the first major western country to recognize New China. The Labor Party is willing to strengthen exchanges with China on such issues as the balanced development between different regions, environmental protection and social justice so as to work jointly for the progress of the relations between Britain and China.

Ambassador Liu commended the Labor Party for its long-term commitment to developing relations with China and spoke highly of its important contribution to China-UK ties. He said that China stands ready to enhance dialogues and exchanges with the Labor Party and deepen cooperation in all fields so as to deliver more "golden fruits" for China-UK "Golden Era".

The two sides also exchanged views on international issues of common interests.
