|The Chinese Embassy in the UK Displayed the Compiled British Illustration for Chinese Media|
The Chinese Embassy in the UK displayed the Compiled British Illustration for Chinese media on 23 May 2007. More than ten Chinese media in the UK and local Chinese media were present.
Cultural Counsellor Ke Yasha gave a detailed introduction of the provenance of the Compiled British Illustration, related the story of British King George III sent Lord McCartney as envoy to present these books to Emperor Qianlong as a state gift in 1793. The drawings and prints present a panoramic image of British scenery and sights of human interest at the end of 18th century.
As the rare historical materials to investigate the British history in the 18th century, the Compiled British Illustration will be presented to Her Majesty the Queen next month along with the credentials by the Chinese Ambassador H.E. Mme. Fu Ying to the UK. The display aims at providing the media with an opportunity to watch these books closely.
