The 2nd Youth English Speech Contest Held by the Chinese Embassy in the UK
2007/05/04

In order to further improve young diplomats' capacities in dealing with foreign affairs and publicity, commemorate the May 4th Movement and carry forward its spirit, the Chinese Embassy in the UK successfully held the 2nd English Speech Contest on the evening of 4 May. Nine contestants from various sections of the Embassy spoke their mind plainly on topics such as China's image, the harmonious society, intellectual property right protection and the defence policy. Impassioned or affectionate, the contestants took this platform as an opportunity to improve their capacities.

Ambassador Fu Ying gave out awards to the winners and fully affirmed the contestants' performances. She noted that English is one of the fundamental skills of the diplomats. Young diplomats should make efforts to learn English well and grasp speech-making techniques so as to publicize China to the world and build up a good international image for China in a more effective way.
