Ambassador Liu Xiaoming Meets with Vice Admiral Benjamin Key, the Fleet Commander of Royal Navy
2017/09/22

On September 22, 2017, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming met with Vice Admiral Benjamin Key, the Fleet Commander of Royal Navy at the Embassy. Major General Su Guanghui, Defense Attaché of the Chinese Embassy, and Brigadier General Stephen C. McMahon, Head of International Policy and Plans of Ministry of Defence, were present. The two sides had friendly talks on China-UK relations, especially military ties, and the upcoming visit of Chinese PLA Navy fleet to the UK.

Ambassador Liu noted that keeping to the general direction of the "Golden Era" of China-UK ties, the relations between the two armed forces have maintained a good momentum of development, and the political mutual trust between the two sides has been continuously strengthened with the pragmatic exchanges and cooperation in various fields. In early October, the Chinese Navy fleet which has just fulfilled its escort mission in the Gulf of Aden will pay a goodwill visit to the UK. He believed that the visit would further increase mutual understanding and friendship between China-UK naval forces and make positive contribution to relationships between our two countries and two armed forces.

Vice Admiral Benjamin Key said that, in recent years, the armed forces of the two countries have carried out pragmatic cooperation in anti-piracy and humanitarian assistance, and made positive contribution to safeguarding international and regional security. The British side warmly welcomes the upcoming Chinese Navy fleet and looks forward to expanding cooperation in areas such as anti-piracy and pushing forward the China-UK military relations to a new level.
