I warmly congratulate the opening of the exhibition Ming: 50 years that changed China. I pay tribute to the British Museum, Art Exhibitions China and other organisers for their inspired initiative and hard work.
The Ming exhibition focuses upon the zenith of China’s Ming Dynasty that occurred between 1400 and 1450. Through exquisite porcelain, jewelry, furniture, paintings, sculptures and textiles, visitors will be transported back in time. Through this journey each traveller will gain an intimate insight and contact with the exceptional cultural richness of the Ming Dynasty.
I am sure this exhibition will help the British public gain a better understanding of Chinese history and generate among them an interest to understand modern China. Such is the quality of this exhibition it surely will have a secure place as an outstanding event in the 261-year annals of the British Museum.
The Ming exhibition is an excellent example of China-UK cultural cooperation. I believe this exhibition will further strengthen the friendly cooperation between British Museum and museums as well other cultural institutions in China. This will lay a good foundation for the China-UK cultural exchange year in 2015 and become a new milestone in deepening China-UK cultural exchanges.
The Ming Exhibition is an exceptional event for international cultural exchange. The objects on display are from more than 20 museums across the globe. A number of seminars and discussions will take place during the exhibition. This exhibition is also one of the highlights of London Autumn Cultural Season 2014. I have no doubt that these events will offer platforms for the world’s cultural communities to exchange views, enhance friendship and promote cooperation. Together they will compose a new chapter of harmony of different cultures in the world.
I wish the exhibition a great success!
