On April 28, 2017, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming attended the conferring ceremony of the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad of 2016. Presided over by Wang Yongli,Minister Counsellor for Education of the Chinese Embassy, the ceremony was attended by more than 60 people including awardees, their tutors and relevant assessment experts.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Liu delivered a speech. He extended his warmest congratulations to the 40 awardees and his sincere appreciation to their teachers. He said that, coming to Britain to study, the students epitomize China's young generation and represent the hope of China's future. He expressed his hopes that the students will grasp the prevailing trend of China's future, keep abreast with China's development, the needs for further growth and the latest policies of the country, and try to become the builders and contributors in China's development. The students should grasp the overall development trend in the world, keep pace with the times, dare to blaze new trails and strive to win in a highly competitive world. It is also important that the students should understand the historical responsibility that has fallen on their shoulders, aim high with a clear vision, make the best use of their time in universities, study with utmost commitment, and adopt concrete action plans to reach their goals. In doing so, they are moving closer to realizing the Chinese dream of national renewal, and also that is the path to contribute to building a community of shared future of mankind.
