Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jiang Yu's Remarks on the Chinese Government's New Humanitarian Assistance to Pakistan
2010/09/07

Q: The flooding in Pakistan has gradually subsided. However, the Pakistani Government is still faced with severe challenges in disaster relief and post-disaster reconstruction. Will China provide further humanitarian assistance to Pakistan?

A: Attaching great importance to Pakistan’s rare catastrophic flooding, the Chinese Government has provided Pakistan with humanitarian assistance worth RMB120 million and sent a relief team to the flood-inflicted areas. Various circles in China have also provided different forms of support to Pakistan through multiple channels to the best of our capacity.

At present, Pakistan is still faced with severe challenges in disaster relief and post-disaster reconstruction, and in urgent need of continuous assistance and support from the international community. As Pakistan’s close and friendly neighbor and all-weather friend, the Chinese Government has decided to provide the Pakistani Government with additional humanitarian assistance worth RMB 200 million to support its efforts in fighting against floods and rebuilding homes.
