Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Qin Gang's Response to the International Court of Justice's Advisory Opinion on the Kosovo Case
2010/07/23

Q: The International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued an Advisory Opinion on the Kosovo case on July 22. How does the China side comment on it?

A: We have taken note that the ICJ issued an Advisory Opinion on this case. The Chinese side always maintains that respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of states is one of the fundamental principles of contemporary international law and serves as the cornerstone of the international legal order. China respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia. Regarding the issue of Kosovo, we always stand for seeking a solution acceptable to both sides through dialogue among the parties involved within the framework of the relevant UN Security Council resolution. China is of the view that the ICJ's Advisory Opinion does not hinder the parties involved from properly solving the issue through negotiations.
