Minister Counsellor Wang Qi Attends the IP Week "Asia Outlook" Forum
2020/02/27

On February 26, 2020, Minister Counsellor Wang Qi of the Chinese Embassy in the UK attended the IP Week “Asia Outlook” Forum and delivered a speech. About 100 people attended the meeting, including Peter Godfrey, Managing Director of the Asia Pacific of the UK Energy Institute, Michal Meidan, Director of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, and representatives from the British government, the International Energy Forum, and the business community.

In his speech, Minister Counsellor Wang said, believing that “green mountains and clear waters are mountains of gold and silver”, China has taken active efforts in tackling climate change, pursuing green development, enhancing energy, science and technology innovation, and accelerating the transformation to upgraded forms of energy production and consumption, making important contribution to global sustainable development. This year China and the UK will host COP15 to the Convention on Biological Diversity and COP26 to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change respectively. The two sides can seize the opportunity to strengthen cooperation in energy, environmental protection, and climate change, etc. to “inject stronger impetus to the China-UK ‘Golden Era’ and build a clean and beautiful world.”

Wang also shared information on China’s effective measures and positive results in fighting against the Covid-19 epidemic, emphasizing that “in taking decisive and effective measures of prevention and control, China has demonstrated a great sense of responsibility for both the safety and health of the Chinese people and global public health”. China has the determination, capability, and confidence to win the battle against the Covid-19 epidemic.

Hailing China’s important achievements in tackling climate change and promoting green development, Godfrey and other participants expressed their support to China’s fight against the epidemic and confidence that China will eventually win the battle against the epidemic as soon as possible.
