Minister Counsellor Wang Qi Attends the "70 Years of China" Panel Discussion Hosted by the Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding
2019/10/18
On October 16th, Minister Counsellor Wang Qi was invited to attend the panel discussion themed 70 Years of China: Review and Outlook held by the Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding (SACU) at the King's College of London and delivered a speech. Zoe Reed, Chairman of SACU, Martin Albrow, Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, Writer Jenny Clegg and more than 80 members of the association and scholars and students of the King's College were present at the event.

Wang noted that the grand celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China was held recently. In the past 70 years, China has made remarkable achievements, not only catching up with the rest of the world and embarking on the road to national rejuvenation, but also integrating and sharing benefits with the world. China will firmly follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, deepen reform, expand opening up, and adhere to the path of peaceful development, so as to pursue happiness for the Chinese people and make greater contribution to peace, development, prosperity and progress for mankind. This year also marks the 65th anniversary of China-UK diplomatic relationship at the chargé d'affaires level. He expressed the hope that China and the UK would continue to make contribution to mutual understanding between the two countries and deliver more "golden fruits" for China-UK relationship.

The participants congratulated on the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China. Albrow expressed his admiration for China's achievements, saying that China's new era is very impressive, and the world should learn "the Chinese spirit" and "the Chinese experience." Reed and others said that it is of great significance to review China's achievements and look forward to China's future on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The SACU is willing to further promote the understanding of China from all walks of life in Britain, and there are broad prospects for strengthening non-governmental exchanges between the UK and China.

Society for Anglo-China Understanding, founded in 1965, is a non-profit and non-governmental organization aimed at promoting understanding and friendship between the British and Chinese people.
