Ambassador Liu delivering a speech

Ambassador Liu delivered a speech entitled Enhance Communications between Political Parties for Closer China-UK Cooperation. He said that Chinese New Year celebration has become more and more popular in Britain in recent years, which is a result of the solid progress of the China-UK “Golden Era”, the enhanced cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and the UK, and the continued contribution of the local Chinese community to the British society.

“Of course, I should not forget to mention the joint efforts of people across all sectors from both countries, including the Labour Party and Chinese for Labour”, the Ambassador said, “I look forward to continued contribution from the Labour Party and Chinese for Labour. I am sure your efforts will help improve understanding between the people of our two countries and promote the sound development of our bilateral relations.” He hoped that the Labour Party would continue to take an active part in the China-UK Leadership Forum and strengthen the communications between the political parties of the two countries. China would join hands with the Labour Party to advance China-UK relations so as to deliver more benefits to the people of China and Britain and to contribute to world peace and development.

Mr Corbyn delivering a speech

Mr Corbyn in his address said that the Labour Party attaches great importance to its ties with China and is willing to strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between China and Britain and to push China-UK relations to a new level. He said, “Chinese people have contributed hugely to British life.” “Chinese people make an invaluable and often overlooked difference to our country.” He also expressed his appreciation to Chinese for Labour for their efforts at the general election last year. He noted that the Labour Party is committed to developing a more just society to enhance Chinese representation in all levels of the party and stands ready to pay close attention to protecting the rights of British Chinese and Chinese students in such areas as education, culture, medication and social welfare.

Sonny Leong said that Chinese for Labour is willing to actively implement the organization’s first program, play its role for Chinese people in participating in politics and safeguarding the rights of Chinese, and contribute to promoting China-UK cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative.
