Minister Ma Hui Gives a Talk on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era at Cambridge University

On January 24, Minister Ma Hui attended the Cambridge China Development Forum hosted by the Chinese Students and Scholars Association of Cambridge University and delivered a speech entitled Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and China's Future Development. The event was joined by Professor Peter Nolan CBE, a renowned economist, Director of China Center, University of Cambridge, and about 200 students and teachers from the University.

Minister Ma pointed out that understanding socialism with Chinese characteristics is key to appreciating the present China and its future. The combination of the basic principles of scientific socialism with the national conditions of China is the natural result of historical development and the choice of the Chinese people, which follows the trend of the times and is imbued with distinctive Chinese characteristics. Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is the latest achievement of in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and an important component of the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Rich in content, it is a guide to action for the CPC and the action plan for realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. By committing to the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, China has achieved great progress at home and contributed to common development of the world. China's development offers a brand new option for other developing countries who want to achieve modernization and contributes China's wisdom and approach to promoting global governance. Minister Ma encouraged both Chinese and British students to seek their individual dreams in the process of working for the development of their respective countries, and become a participant, builder and contributor to the China-UK "Golden Era". He expressed the hope that the students can play a positive role in advancing exchange and cooperation between China and Britain, enhancing the mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese and British people, and building a better world of peace and prosperity.

Based on the comparative studies on the history of the development of China and the Europe, Professor Nolan spoke highly of the outstanding achievements of the socialism with Chinese characteristics, saying that the CPC and the Chinese people have every reason to be confident about their development path and social system. Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era will provide new opportunities and make new contribution to the world development.

Minister Ma and Professor Nolan also answered questions regarding economic globalization, Sino-U.S. economic and trade relations and the development of China's democracy.

The Chinese students participating in the event expressed appreciation for Minister Ma's speech as it helped them enhance understanding of the 19th National Congress of the CPC, build up their confidence in a bright future for China, and encourage them to study hard, study well and serve the motherland.
