Ambassador Liu Xiaoming Meets with Hartwig Fischer, Director of the British Museum

On January 6, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming met with Dr. Hartwig Fischer, Director of the British Museum, and elaborated him on the new thinking, new ideas, and new measures adopted at the 19th National Congress of CPC, as well as the latest progress of the Belt and Road Initiative. Dr. Fischer briefed Ambassador Liu on the cooperation between the British Museum and the Chinese cultural institutions in recent years, the recent joint projects and the preliminary plans for large-scale exhibitions. Xiang Xiaowei, Minister Counselor for Culture of the Chinese Embassy, and Ms Jessica Harrison-Hall, Head of China Section, Department of Asia of the British Museum were present.

Ambassador Liu said that, as one of the world-renowned museums, the British Museum has maintained a long-term close cooperation with China and has made positive contribution to promoting the cultural exchanges between the two countries and enhancing the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. As the "Golden Era" of China-UK relations accelerates, the cultural exchange and cooperation between the two countries continue to thrive, contributing more "golden fruits" to the China-UK "Golden Era". The Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping and responded positively by the countries and international communities along the Belt and Road has brought historical opportunities for deepening mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Britain. At present, China is promoting for the establishment of five international unions on jointly-built museums, libraries, art galleries, theaters, and art festivals with the countries along the route. The Ambassador encourages the British Museum to actively join the International Museum Union of the Belt and Road Initiative to play its positive role in the cooperation of launching museums with the countries along the Belt and Road.

Dr. Fischer said that the British Museum is willing to further cooperate closely with China and other major civilizations in the world so that the Museum will not only showcase the historical relics and traditional cultures, but also be more responsive to the transformation of the world and be closer to the modern life. The British Museum is also ready to strengthen its cooperation with China on the Belt and Road projects and make greater contribution to the "Golden Era" of the UK-China ties.

Ambassador Liu presented Dr. Fischer with a book entitled Xi Jinping The Governance of China.
