Embassy Spokesperson on rumours and lies about so-called "Forced Labour" in Xinjiang (2)
2024-03-01 23:42

Question: What measures has the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region adopted to promote and ensure employment for people of all ethnic groups?

Embassy Spokesperson: The people's government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is committed to forging a favourable environment for employment, strives to create conditions for all ethnic groups in Xinjiang to find decent jobs and get stable income, and works to ensure their labour rights to the fullest.

In recent years, governments at all levels in Xinjiang have adopted job promotion policies to address issues such as large numbers of rural surplus labour force, limited local job creation capacity, and difficulties in poverty alleviation in some areas of the region. In 2023, Xinjiang allocated over 2.35 billion yuan in employment subsidies and provided close to 2.5 million skill training opportunities for job seekers. As a result, 482,000 new jobs were created in urban areas, and 34,000 people who had experienced difficulties finding employment and nearly 1.1 million people who had just moved out of poverty landed jobs.

Fully respecting the wishes and needs of all ethnic groups, Xinjiang has implemented measures to help people find employment locally, in nearby and other areas of Xinjiang, and in inland provinces of the country. These measures serve to effectively match the needs of people in poverty with job vacancies, raise employment rate, and help poor people of all ethnic groups increase income and get out of poverty. Statistics show that all of Xinjiang’s ethnic minority employees working in interior provinces have got out of poverty, with an annual per capita income of about 40,000 yuan, which is basically on a par with the disposable income of urban residents in the areas where they work. Like local employees, Xinjiang's migrant workers enjoy labour rights in accordance with the law. Their religious beliefs, culture and customs are fully respected. All these prove that Xinjiang’s job promotion policies have yielded tangible results.
